Here are some pictures of a couple of the places we talked about in our study of Bodies of Water. One is the Great Salt Lake in Utah.
This lake is as salty as any ocean. Freshwater streams carry small amounts of salt into the lake. Because the lake is surrounded by higher land, the water cannot flow out of the lake. Over time, as water evaporates, salt is left behind.
This is San Franciso Bay, one of the largest bays in the western United States. The Golden Gate Bridge spans the bay. A bay is a kind of inlet and is usually smaller than a gulf.
