A Good Class

When the bell rings and the class keeps going, you know it has been a good lesson!  Last Tuesday we were discussing immigrants and the prejudices some of them faced, when the fifteen fifth graders had a very grown up discussion.  One young lady began the discussion with the question, "Why are people prejudice?''  I explained the best I could that sometimes people just don't understand or it is something learned from others.  Another young man suggested that everyone in class should make a promise never to show prejudice toward others.  We walked out the door and down the hall, still discussing this subject.  After I left the students and gave it some thought--maybe the world would be a better place if we all had a ten-year-old's sense of fair play!
